OUR SERVICES

If you’re in the Bridgeport, WV area, we’d love to meet you.

regular cleanings

Regular dental cleanings, performed by a registered dental hygienist, are a crucial part of preventive dental care. By removing plaque and tartar, your oral health is enhanced and your risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease are reduced.

Your dental hygienist will utilize manual instruments to remove moderate plaque and tartar buildup, or an ultrasonic device to scale away heavier buildup.

The cleaning is finished with polishing, a pleasant procedure that cleans the surface of teeth, removes stains, and leaves the mouth feeling clean and refreshed.

“you don’t have to brush your teeth – only the ones you want to keep.”

Our Services

We do dental things. A lot of dental things. And we do them well.

These are just a few of the services we offer, diseases we treat and equipment we have available. If you see something not listed here, we probably still offer it. Listing everything is just so … boring. So give us a call if you have any questions.

pediatric dentistry

Kids are rarely excited about a trip to the Dentist. We understand that. However, one visit with our friendly staff is all it takes to change their mind.

nitrous sedation

Nitrous oxide, “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective sedative agent that helps you relax. Not used for all procedures, but available when necessary.

crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth, covering it to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

bridges

Dental bridges are made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and a false tooth/teeth in between.

COMPOSITE FILLINGS

A composite filling is a tooth-colored filling that is used to repair a tooth that has been chipped, cracked, or affected by decay.

extractions

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, we’ll try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, though, there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired.

gingivitis

Gingivitis — an inflammation of the gums — is the initial stage of gum disease. It is caused by not brushing or flossing daily and is relatively easy to treat.

intra-oral camera

Intra-oral cameras (IOCs) are cameras used so you can see the interior of your mouth, as an alternative to using a mirror. They’re pretty cool.

root canals

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. We remove the damaged area, clean and disinfect it, then fill and seal it back up.

INVISALIGN

The invisible way to straighten your teeth without the traditional metal braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets. The aligners are made with 3-D computer imaging technology. You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position. Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

TEETH WHITENING

Your teeth will naturally darken over time. Changes in the color of your teeth can be caused by the food and beverages you consume, such as coffee, tea and soda.

Other known factors for discoloration may include childhood medications or illnesses, tobacco use or improper oral hygiene. We can provide a variety of options from take home to in office treatments for whitening your smile.

The reality is that over-the-counter agents typically don’t work. We are trained professionals using only proven and safe methods. Nothing improves your appearance more than a bright, white smile!

DENTAL EMERGENCY

While dental emergencies are rare, they can and will happen. We are here to help you with all of your dental emergencies. If you experience a dental emergency, be sure to call our office as soon as possible. When your health is at risk, we will do everything we can to make sure that you’re treated as soon as possible.

We do recommend, however, that if you need immediate attention after hours or we cannot be reached, please go to the emergency room or WVU School of Dentistry.

composite fillings

A composite filling is a tooth-colored filling that is used to repair a tooth that has been chipped, cracked, or affected by decay. Whenever possible, we will place a white filling for you.

However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that, by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure.

Tooth colored fillings create teeth that are not only beautiful but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are esthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies.

At Rominger Dental, we have the latest technology to make your teeth look their very best.

Extractions

Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth that are nonrestorable due to decay, severe bone loss, or trauma. Sometimes third molars, better known as wisdom teeth, are impacted, or stuck in the jaw bone and unable to grow normally into the mouth. This is a common problem which may lead to recurrent infections of the gums, or pericoronitis. Sometimes, if a patient is experiencing crowding, even healthy teeth may be extracted to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.

Tooth extraction is usually relatively straightforward, and the vast majority can be usually performed quickly while the individual is awake by using local anesthesia, or numbing, to eliminate painful sensations. Local anesthetic blocks pain, but mechanical forces, such as pressure, are still felt. Some teeth are more difficult to remove. This can be caused by the tooth’s position, the shape of the tooth roots and the integrity of the remaining tooth. If a tooth is buried in the bone or completely broken off, a surgical extraction may be required. This involves cutting the gum away and removal of the bone which is holding the tooth in with a surgical drill. After the tooth is removed, stitches are used to replace the gum into the normal position.

DENTAL cROWNs

A crown is a type of restoration that covers your tooth. Crowns are needed if you have a filling that is too large, you have a fracture in your tooth, you have a weak tooth that needs to be held together, you have a tooth that is extremely discolored, or you simply wish to have a crown placed for pure cosmetic reasons. Crowns can be made of many different materials, including but not limited to, porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, gold, and stainless steel.

A crown normally takes two separate dentist appointments. At your first appointment, the tooth is trimmed down in all dimensions to prepare for the crown. After the tooth is filed or trimmed to the proper shape, an impression of the tooth and the surrounding tissues is completed and sent away to a dental lab. By the end of this first visit, your tooth will have a cosmetic temporary crown that protects your tooth until the final crown is ready to be permanently cemented.

After approximately 3 weeks, you will have your second appointment. At this appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and the final crown is adhered with permanent cement. Once your dental crown procedure is complete, it may take some getting used to before the permanent crown feels normal in your mouth; however, after a little time has passed, the crown should look, function, and feel like a regular tooth!

ROOT CANALs

A root canal is a procedure that removes decayed pulp from the central part of the tooth, reshapes the canal and replaces it with a strengthening filler. A cavity is the result of superficial decay in the enamel layer of the tooth. Left long enough, this decay can spread into the deeper areas of the tooth, causing extensive damage to tooth structure.

When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, dentists can perform a root canal saving a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted or pulled. Although root canals do save teeth, they also weaken teeth. To prevent a tooth from fracturing after root canal therapy is performed, a crown is usually recommended to restore the tooth to full function again.

At Rominger Dental, we do these all the time and they’re nothing to be worried about. We’ll walk you through the whole process, from what to expect before showing up to any aftercare necessary to speed up the healing process. We look forward to seeing you soon!
